Abstract:
The PACKING project will examine the “groups” and “institutions” that support the sexual exploitation of Nigerian women in Europe by criminal gangs:
- neo-traditional Ayelala temples in Edo state;
- women’s clubs;
- “cult” gangs.
The abovementioned groups will be studied from three points of view: socio-historical, legal and, for the temples, religious.
The project will be organised around meetings between researchers from Nigeria and France, thus helping with the understanding of a complex phenomenon that affects both countries. In the future, it should lead to the development of measures against people-trafficking as recommended by international treaties. The project will use two geographical areas: one in Nigeria and the other in France.
